Are you building a new house? If you are building a new house and thinking about cutting your expenses I would try to cut somewhere besides the architectural detail. The crown molding and the other trimwork will be the place that you will add character to your home. I have always said that a house without crown molding reminded me of an undressed person. Something is missing. If you do have to cut down a little bit I would try to at least have the proper trim molding in my entrance rooms such as your foyer, living room and kitchen. One thing that you may also want to consider is to learn how to do as much of the work as you can yourself. This is one way to still have nicer details and still meet your budget. There are all kinds of ways to learn to do stuff yourself. Why we were building our house I discovered that our local Lowe’s store offered classes on pretty much all phases of the house building process. They even had classes on how to paint and they were good classes held by people who seemed to know what they were talking about. Cutting the crown molding angels is the hardest part but you can do it with some practice.
Note: 3 Reason Why It is not a good idea to cut the crown molding from your building budget
1. It will take away from your homes value( As a home builder and Realtor ) I would suggest if you have to trim the money you spend, do it somewhere besides the details. Trim the size of the house or do without that new furniture you have your eye on.I have showed lots of houses and sometimes people do not even realize what is so appealing over one house to the next but I do. It is all in the detail. Adding beautiful crown molding to a room just gives it a warmer feel.
2. Hard to add later When we are in the building process we just except the mess and everything being dusty and needing cleaned up. Once we are in our new house the last thing you will want to do is to start making a mess all over again. To me if I do not get it done the first time it just never seems to get done.
3. Your own satisfaction If you do not build you home the way you desire you will always feel like it just does not seem to measure up. This is the reason that I mentioned earlier that I would cut the size a little and still have the detail that I wanted. You can overcome a little smaller house easier than just simply not being satisfied with a plain one.
The architectural detail gives our homes the character that says it is part of us. When I walk into my home everyday it has me written all over it. Remember ” Your Story Begins At Home”
